[edit] Testimony of Leaving Islam

I'll first briefly explain my religious history. I was born into a very liberal "first Mennonite" Christian family. At age 11 I became interested in Wicca and from that time until I was 18, I was a firm believer in earthy Pagan religions. I soon started doubting my beliefs and considered Christianity but rejected it, then back to Paganism I went, and then for some reason I delved into Islam. Most of my friends are Middle Eastern and lots of them are Muslim so they helped me along and I eventually converted and became very zealous and proud. I then started backing out, thinking this was too much for me to handle, all these stupid rules and specifics on how I should live.

I convinced myself that I was just being selfish and needed to read the Qur'an again so I did, this time not doubting a single thing it said. What a mistake! After lots of thinking, I realized that people do not need a religion to tell them how to live. People need to form their own values around their own experiences. After finding this site, I immediately felt comforted and I know that I am not the only one who was naive enough to fall into Islam's trap. Thank (your deity of choice) that I have climbed out and I would love to help others do the same!
