[edit] Sira (Sirat Rasul Allah)

Hi thanks for fixing the link for me earlier today. I have another problem. On the Sira page, in the Downloads section, the first link doesn't work. Is there somewhere else I can download this file? Thanks!

I've just found the entire translation by Guillaume on archive.org (jpeg format): http://ia600503.us.archive.org/3/items/IbnIshaq-SiratRasulAllah-translatorA.Guillaume/IbnIshaq-SiratRasulAllah.zip --Gabe 09:44, 2 August 2011 (PDT)
Thanks Gabe :) Although Gulliame's translation is pretty craptastic. If possible you should either go for the direct Ishaq quotes from Tabari (as this is where they were gotten from when Ishaq's sira itself was lost), or if you can't afford to buy those (in English), I'd recommend the abridged Sira, which is linked to on our sira page. Gulliame (and later idiots like Karen Armstrong) pad the content out and make it palatable to English speakers (Westerners).
To be honest though, even the abridged sira isn't that good because it's a translation of Hisham's abridged Sira, and Hisham admitted in his Foreword that he censored some parts and outright omitted other parts that 'may be distressing to some readers."
But if it's all that you can get your hands on, go for the abridged Sira - although as I said, when talking Ishaq, the most reliable quotes are Tabari's direct quotations from Ishaq's manuscript. Sanitarium Talk! 17:12, 2 August 2011 (PDT)
Thanks for the info! I (or you *nudge*) could add that to the Sirat page so readers are aware of this :) --Gabe 00:51, 3 August 2011 (PDT)
