Pompeii not in the Quran

Pompeii is an ancient city that was not mentioned in the Quran at all. [1]

"Miracle"

Some Islamic apologists think that a volcano is the same thing as hell:

Archeologists discovered the remains of an old town in Italy which was hit by a volcano 79 A.D.. The fast moving cyroplastic flow cought its citizins off gaurd.

The hot pumice, ash, and debris quickly hardened around peoples' bodies, like a mold, preserving their final act.

But 1400 years ago it was stated in the Quran that Allah can freeze disbelievers motionless in Hell:

[Quran 36.67] And if We will, We can freeze them in their place; so they can neither move forward, nor go back.

God can freeze disbelievers motionless in Hell. Today we know that people of Pompeii were frozen in their final act by a volcano. Lava, hot ash... from the volcano are the same stuff portrayed in Hell in the Quran.

How could an illiterate man who lived 1400 years ago have known that people can be frozen in their final act?

Is Allah limited?

How could an illiterate man who lived 1400 years ago have known that people can be frozen in their final act?

The verse doesn't say that it is possible in nature. It says that Allah can do it. And since he is supernatural and all-powerful and not limited by the laws of nature, the verse has nothing to do with nature and therefore nothing to do with science.

An illiterate man who lived 1400 years ago and believed in all-powerful god would be sure that the god can do anything. That includes preventing people from moving.

The verse

The verse says nothing about Pompeii and nothing about people being frozen in nature:

And if We will, We can freeze them in their place; so they can neither move forward, nor go back.

Quran 36:67, translated by miracles-of-quran.com [2]

And it is from a context of a description of hell, which is supernatural, therefore anything is possible there:

36:63 This is the Hellfire which you were promised.

36:64 [Enter to] burn therein today for what you used to deny."

36:65 That Day, We will seal over their mouths, and their hands will speak to Us, and their feet will testify about what they used to earn.

36:66 And if We willed, We could have obliterated their eyes, and they would race to [find] the path, and how could they see?

36:67 And if We willed, We could have deformed them, [paralyzing them] in their places so they would not be able to proceed, nor could they return.

If the verses really talked about what is possible in nature, then how can hands speak and how can feet testify?

The Bible

Transforming a human into an immovable object was already mentioned in the Old Testament, long before Islam:

But Lot's wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.

Bible, Genesis 19:26 [3]

The discovery

The fact that a human can be prevented from moving (and "can't go forward nor back" as the Quran says) was discovered long before the written history. For example by one stronger person holding another person who then can't move.
